Stress Awareness Day: What Can You Do?

Wellbeing Therapy Hut Admin

2nd November is Stress Awareness Day. It is something that has been happening for a little while now, in order to increase awareness to the public about both what causes stress and also what can be done to help cure stress; it is a modern day epidemic.

There are millions of people around the UK that are experiencing very high levels of stress, and to put it bluntly, it is damaging our health. Many people can just think of it as ‘just’ stress, but it can be a very serious health concern. Stress is a significant factor when it comes to mental health, being a big contributing factor for anxiety and depression. It is also closely linked to health problems like heart disease, insomnia, digestive problems, and even problems with our immune system. By understanding stress and knowing how we react to it, we can learn to cope better, as well as reduce the stress in our lives.

What Can Be Done on Stress Awareness Day?

If you’re not sure what can be done on Stress Awareness Day, then here are some ideas to help yourself, as well as those around you.

Talk about stress in your life and the impact it has

One thing that we can all do, in order to reduce the stigma that is associated with stress. You could talk about stress openly and discuss what stresses you out with friends and family, even colleagues.

Share how you cope

If you have found something that works for you to help with your stress, then why not share it with others? It could help those around you, and if friends and family share too, then you might get new ideas to help you cope with stress too. Sharing can also help to take your mind off the challenges that you have yourself.

Be thoughtful to those that are stress and anxious

We are all going through different things, and as we hear so often, we need to be kind. We might not be feeling particularly stressed or anxious right now, but we might be someday and would want some compassion and empathy if that was us.

Take care of yourself

We all need to practise self-care, but especially when we are feeling stressed or anxious. Take some time out of your day to rest and relax, as much as is possible. Do something that you enjoy. Do a little exercise. Eat good food that fuels you, and don’t forget to do all of this when you’re feeling the most stressed.

One of the most important things when you feel anxious or stressed is to make an effort to look after yourself. Taking some time out to relax is important. Learning to say no when things are taking over too much is another important thing too. If there is too much going on, say no. Your stress levels need to be reduced to look after your mind and your health.
